Arriving in Labuan Bajo: flights, visas and the transfer to your yacht
Updated 27 October 2026
Land in Labuan Bajo the day before sailing so a delayed flight does not cost you the first day. Pickup from the airport, a hotel or the harbour is part of the booking; the time and meeting point are confirmed in writing. We do not sell flight tickets.
Which cities fly to Labuan Bajo
The airport is Komodo International Airport, code LBJ. Most travellers connect through Bali (DPS), Jakarta (CGK) or Surabaya (SUB), with Lombok and Kupang as smaller feeders. Flight times on the direct routes run from about 1 hour 10 minutes from Bali to between 2 hours 30 minutes and 3 hours from Jakarta.
Direct international services are limited, so a party coming from abroad plans one connection in Indonesia. The table below lists the airlines and cities on the route; schedules are the airlines' to change. Verify the timetable before you book a ticket.
Land the day before sailing. A delayed or cancelled flight on the day of sailing costs the first day of the route, and no stop on the route has slack to give. Arrive in Labuan Bajo one day before sailing to avoid cancelled or delayed flights, and take an onward flight no earlier than the evening of the return day.

Passports, visas and a party of mixed nationalities
Visa rules depend on each guest's passport, and a party of mixed nationalities has more than one answer. Many nationalities can obtain a visa on arrival or apply for an electronic version online before travel; others must apply in advance; citizens of some neighbouring countries enter without a visa. The table gives the rules and the date they were checked.
Three points apply to every passport. It should be valid for at least six months after arrival and have at least two blank pages. Proof of onward or return travel is asked for. And an arrival card is completed online before arrival, free of charge, on the official immigration site; third-party sites that charge a fee are not that site.
Visa fees and rules change, and some changes have been announced without an effective date. Verify every item on the official immigration site before you travel, and ask your embassy if the party includes a nationality not listed in the table.
| Visa on Arrival (VoA) | Open to nationals of 97 listed countries, including most of Europe, the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Japan, South Korea, China, India and the Gulf states. Other nationalities apply in advance at evisa.imigrasi.go.id. |
|---|---|
| e-VoA | The same 30-day visa, applied for online before you travel at evisa.imigrasi.go.id. Once approved, you must enter within 90 days. |
| VoA / e-VoA price | IDR 500,000 per person; children pay the same. Fees can change, so check the official site before you fly. |
| Length of stay | 30 days from the day you arrive, single entry |
| Extension | Once, by 30 days (60 days in total), for IDR 500,000. Apply at an immigration office about a week before the first 30 days end. |
| Visa-free entry | 30 days, not extendable, for citizens of ASEAN countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam. |
| Passport | Valid for at least 6 months after your arrival date, with at least 2 blank pages |
| Onward ticket | Proof of a return or onward ticket is required for a VoA |
| All Indonesia arrival card | Free and compulsory. Fill it in within 72 hours before arrival at allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id or in the app; it covers immigration, customs and the health declaration. |
| Arriving in Labuan Bajo | Most visitors clear immigration in Bali, Jakarta or Surabaya and reach Labuan Bajo on a domestic flight |
| Bali tourist levy | IDR 150,000 per foreign visitor if you enter through Bali, paid at lovebali.baliprov.go.id. It is separate from the visa fee. |

Cash, mobile coverage and sockets
The currency is the Indonesian rupiah. Cash machines are in Labuan Bajo town near the harbour and at the airport arrivals hall, and there are none inside the national park or on the islands, so withdraw cash before you board. Cards are accepted at hotels and larger restaurants, sometimes with a surcharge; small shops, markets and taxis take cash.
Crew gratuities are outside the fare and are paid by you; tipping is appreciated and never compulsory. The yachts carry local Wi-Fi on board, and no speed or coverage is promised. Mobile signal is patchy at sea, and a local SIM registered with a passport has the best coverage in Labuan Bajo.
Mains power is 230 V at 50 Hz, with two-round-pin sockets of types C and F, so a party from elsewhere needs the right adaptor in the hand luggage.
| Currency | Indonesian rupiah (IDR); about IDR 16,000 to 16,500 to the US dollar and IDR 17,500 to 18,000 to the euro in mid-2026 |
|---|---|
| ATMs | BCA, Mandiri, BNI and BRI on Jl. Soekarno-Hatta near the harbour and at airport arrivals; none in the national park or on the islands. Take cash before you board. |
| ATM limits | IDR 1,250,000 to 3,000,000 per withdrawal; a local fee of about IDR 25,000 to 50,000, plus your own bank's charges |
| Cards or cash | Cards work at hotels, dive centres, boat companies and larger restaurants, often with a surcharge of 2 to 4 per cent. Small eateries, markets, taxis and small shops take cash. |
| Tipping | Appreciated, never compulsory. In restaurants 5 to 10 per cent when no service charge is added; for a boat crew, IDR 50,000 to 100,000 per guest per day is a common range. |

The meeting at the airport
Pickup is part of the booking, at no charge. A driver meets the party at the airport, at a hotel or at the harbour, at a time and a meeting point confirmed in writing. The drive from the airport to the harbour area takes about 10 minutes.
A Toyota HiAce seats up to 12, and a larger vehicle comes on request for a larger party; each is its own line in the quote. Flight numbers and arrival times are the one thing the office needs from you for this, and they belong in the brief.
In confidence. The arrival details are held by the booking office and passed to the driver for the pickup. The guest list is seen by the booking office and the crew list only, and we promise nothing about what a guest posts on a personal account.
Medicines and papers to pack
Pack shoes with grip for the Padar and Komodo walks, and closed shoes for the Komodo Island walk. Pack a copy of the passport or ID for the sailing permit, and your personal medicine in its original packaging, in the hand luggage.
Travel and medical insurance, with cover for medical evacuation, is strongly recommended for every guest, and it is not in the fare. Mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue are present in the region, so bring repellent. Pharmacies in Labuan Bajo have a limited choice, so bring prescription medicines and sunscreen from home.
The table sets out the health points for the region. A guest with a medical condition should tell us in the brief, so the crew knows before sailing.
| Insurance | Travel insurance with medical cover and emergency evacuation is strongly recommended; add dive cover if you dive |
|---|---|
| Private hospital | Siloam Hospitals Labuan Bajo, Jl. Gabriel Gampur, +62 385 2440 666; it has a hyperbaric chamber |
| Public hospital | RSUD Komodo, Labuan Bajo, with an emergency unit; no hyperbaric chamber |
| Pharmacies | Available in town with a limited range; bring prescription medicines and sunscreen from home |
| Emergency numbers | 112 general; 118 or 119 medical; 110 police; 115 search and rescue |
| Health risks | Dengue, chikungunya and malaria are present, so protect yourself against mosquito bites. Rabies exists in dogs and monkeys: seek care at once after a bite. |
