A resort in Komodo or a private yacht: what the same three days buy

Updated 27 October 2026

A private yacht gives one party the whole vessel, a crew and a route; a resort gives a bed that stays put. On Voyage 1, three days and two nights for 12 guests are shared at 2026 rates, with park tickets and flights extra. Yacht for reach, resort for stillness.

A party of 8 or 12, a yacht or a hotel

Picture a party of 8, or 12, with three free days in Labuan Bajo. One option is a hotel or resort ashore, with day trips into the park. The other is Lamain Voyage 1, chartered whole for three days and two nights: 6 suites, 8 on the crew list, up to 16 guests.

This note weighs four things: who else is on site, how far the days reach, what each option leaves out of the price, and the sum per person. The sums use Voyage 1 at 3D2N on the 2026 rate card.

Privacy, and who else is on site

On a whole-yacht charter there is one party aboard, yours, plus the crew. Voyage 1 lists 8 on the crew list for a party of 12, which is 1.5 guests to each crew member; for a party of 8 it is one to one. No other guest comes aboard, and nobody else shares the deck.

A hotel or resort is shared by design, more in some weeks than others. Ask any resort, in writing, how many other bookings it holds in the same grounds on your dates. In a peak week, rooms in Labuan Bajo run out, so fix the hotel nights early.

Reach: what the water gives, and what the shore keeps

The 3D2N route names nine stops: Kelor Island, Menjerite Point, Kalong Island, Padar Island, Pink Beach, Komodo Island, Taka Makassar, Manta Point and Sebayur Island. Weather and current set their order. A day trip from a hotel starts and ends in Labuan Bajo, which limits how far it can reach.

What the shore keeps is simple: one address, a bed that stays still, and the freedom to skip a day. For a principal who has to be reachable at a fixed address, that matters.

What each option leaves out of the price

On Voyage 1, the park ticket and ranger fees, flights, hotel before and after, insurance and crew gratuities are paid by you, and a guide or a photographer is quoted on request.

Run the same list against a resort and you have your questions to ask in writing: the transfer from the airport, every boat trip into the park, the park ticket and the guide. A rate that omits them is a room rate, not a Komodo rate, and the missing pieces arrive later as separate lines.

Ask each property for one total covering your party, your nights and your days in the park, with exclusions listed. Then the two options can be set side by side.

The sum for a party of 8 and a party of 12

The whole-yacht rate for 3D2N on Voyage 1 covers 1 to 12 guests, so a party of 8 and a party of 12 pay the same rate: IDR 140,000,000 (≈ USD 8,589). What changes is each person's share.

GuestsWhole yacht, 3D2N, 2026 rates (IDR, per yacht)Per person (IDR)
8IDR 140,000,000 (≈ USD 8,589)IDR 17,500,000 (≈ USD 1,074)
12IDR 140,000,000 (≈ USD 8,589)IDR 11,670,000 (≈ USD 716)

Four more guests cut each share by a third. The per-person column is simply the whole-yacht rate divided by the party. Take your party's figure, ask the hotel for the same nights plus the items in the previous section, and compare the two totals per head.

Both figures are 2026 whole-yacht rates; a 2027 date is quoted at the 2027 figure.

When the resort is the better choice

Choose the resort if nobody in the party wants to sleep afloat. A party of two is in a similar position: dividing a whole-yacht rate by two is the wrong comparison, and the right one is an open-trip suite, priced per person.

It's also the choice for a principal prone to seasickness who won't spend a day on the water, and for a party that wants a night ashore at each end. That last case isn't either-or: the hotel before and after is paid by you and booked through us, and the yacht covers the days between.

The when-to-go page covers the months. If the answer is still the resort, we will say so and tell you which hotels are our partners.

FAQ

Is a private yacht cheaper than a luxury resort in Komodo?

We don't quote resort rates, so the comparison is yours to build. Voyage 1 for 3D2N costs IDR 17,500,000 (≈ USD 1,074) per person at 8 guests and IDR 11,670,000 (≈ USD 716) at 12, 2026 rates. Ask the hotel for one total that includes transfers, boat trips and park tickets, then divide by your party.

Can we spend one night ashore and the rest on the yacht?

Yes. A hotel before or after sailing is paid by you. Partner hotels sell their rooms to us directly, with no booking-platform fee, so you pay the hotel's own price. The yacht covers the sailing days.

How many guests can one yacht take?

Each yacht takes up to 16 guests and is chartered whole. Voyage 1 has 6 suites and Voyage 2 has 8.
