Fifty-four questions about chartering a luxury yacht in Komodo
Updated 27 October 2026
Fifty-four questions in nine groups, from price to privacy. A private charter hires the whole yacht for up to 16 guests; 3D2N starts at IDR 140,000,000 (≈ USD 8,589) on Voyage 1. Each answer gives the number, the yacht and the condition.
Fifty-four answers, in the order a booking runs
The answers run in the order a booking is decided, from price and suites to arrival and privacy, and each gives the number, the yacht and the condition on which it holds. Every figure is a 2026 rate for the whole yacht.
A question not here goes through the contact page with three details: the number of guests, the dates and the yacht in mind. Our office is open every day, 08:00 to 20:00 WITA.
Cost and what is included
What does a luxury yacht in Komodo cost for a day, a night and four days?
Whole-yacht 2026 rates: Voyage 1 costs IDR 80,000,000 (≈ USD 4,908) for a day, IDR 110,000,000 (≈ USD 6,748) for one night (2D1N) and IDR 170,000,000 (≈ USD 10,429) for four days (4D3N), the 2D1N and 4D3N rates covering 1 to 12 guests. Voyage 2 costs IDR 95,000,000 (≈ USD 5,828), IDR 118,000,000 (≈ USD 7,239) and IDR 286,000,000 (≈ USD 17,546) for 1 to 10 guests. Rates are per yacht, not per person.
Why is a private charter priced per yacht and not per person?
A private charter takes the whole yacht, with its crew list of 8 on Voyage 1 or 13 on Voyage 2. Yacht and crew sail whether 4 guests are aboard or 16, so the rate is for the yacht. Six guests on Voyage 1 for 3D2N pay IDR 23,330,000 (≈ USD 1,431) each; sixteen pay IDR 10,380,000 (≈ USD 637).
What is left out of the rate?
Park tickets and ranger fees, flights and visas, hotels before and after, travel and medical insurance, alcohol, personal expenses and crew gratuities. On a private charter the guide and the photo and video documentation are also left out; both are available on request and quoted separately.
Is there a surcharge for the 13th to 16th guest on Voyage 1?
Yes. The Voyage 1 rate covers 1 to 12 guests, and each guest from the 13th to the 16th adds IDR 6,500,000 (≈ USD 399), the same on the 2D1N and the 4D3N. Sixteen guests pay IDR 166,000,000 (≈ USD 10,184) for the yacht on the 3D2N. The extra beds are in Osaka, Athena and Bern.
Does the price change between June and November?
No. Nothing in the 2026 list varies by month, so a night in July costs what a night in November does. The month changes the sea, the visibility and the crowds, never the rate.
Can the quote be given in US dollars?
Rates are set in rupiah; every rupiah figure on this site has an approximate dollar value beside it as a guide. The amount you pay is the one in the written quote, and PayPal carries a fee of 7.2 percent.
How much are the Komodo National Park fees with KEXI?
KEXI quotes the park as one package per guest: 3D2N: IDR 650,000 per foreign guest, IDR 350,000 per Indonesian guest; 4D3N: IDR 750,000 per foreign guest, IDR 350,000 per Indonesian guest. It bundles the government entrance ticket (IDR 250,000 per foreign visitor per day, PP 36/2024) with the ranger fee and local levies, and is paid on top of the boat price unless your quote says it is included.
Can I pay the balance on the departure day?
Yes. The standard terms stay the same: a 50% deposit confirms the date and the balance is due 30 days before departure, but you may also pay the balance in Labuan Bajo on the departure day, in cash or by card on the EDC machine. Card payment link 3%, PayPal 7.2%, EDC 3%; your issuing bank may add its own charges.
Decks and suites
How many people sleep on each yacht?
Sixteen at most on each. Voyage 1 has 6 suites: 12 guests sleep two to a queen bed, and the 13th to the 16th use the extra beds in Osaka, Athena and Bern. Voyage 2 has 8 suites with two guests each and no extra beds.
Which suite has the jacuzzi balcony?
Paris on Voyage 1 (main deck, queen bed) and Borobudur on Voyage 2 (upper deck, king bed), each with the jacuzzi on its private balcony. No other suite on either yacht has one.
Are bathrooms private in every suite?
Yes: all 6 suites on Voyage 1 and all 8 on Voyage 2 have an en-suite bathroom and air conditioning.
What is in every suite?
All 14 suites across the two yachts have air conditioning and an en-suite bathroom, and Voyage 2 also lists towels and two bathrobes in each. Other furnishings are described suite by suite on the suites page.
What is the difference between the two yachts in one line?
Voyage 1 is 34.39 m with 6 suites, 8 on the crew list and one rate to 12 guests; Voyage 2 is 41.5 m with 8 suites, 13 on the crew list and two rate bands, 1 to 10 and 11 to 16 guests.
Who chooses which guest sleeps in which suite?
You do. The suite assignment goes into the brief alongside names, ages and who shares, and it is fixed before boarding. Paris on Voyage 1 and Borobudur on Voyage 2 are the master suites, and who takes them is the party's decision.
Everyone aboard: crew, meals and service
Does the crew size change with the size of my party?
No. The crew is fixed for each yacht: 8 names on Voyage 1 (7 crew and a cruise director) and 13 on Voyage 2 (12 crew and a cruise director). Four guests have the same 8 or 13 as sixteen; at 16 that is 2.0 and 1.2 guests for each person on the list.
Are meals and drinks part of the rate?
Meals each day and snacks are in the rate, with soft drinks, fresh juices, coffee and tea, free-flow; alcohol is not included. The menu follows the diets you send.
Can the crew cook for allergies or halal diets?
Diets and allergies go to the crew as soon as you send them in the brief, and the reply says which diets, halal included, the kitchen will meet before you pay.
Does the yacht have Wi-Fi?
Yes, local Wi-Fi is on board both yachts. Coverage at sea varies with the islands, so plan video calls for your hours in Labuan Bajo.
Are children welcome and from what age is a child free?
Yes. A child under 3 travels free with a parent or guardian, and from age 3 the full fare applies. Give the ages in the brief, with the name of each child's carer.
Are crew tips included?
No. Crew gratuities are paid by you on top of the rate, in an amount and in a manner that you decide.
Islands, stops and the sea
Which stops are on the 2D1N, the 3D2N and the 4D3N?
2D1N: Kelor, Menjerite Point and Kalong on day 1; Padar, Pink Beach, Komodo Island and Taka Makassar on day 2. The 3D2N adds Manta Point on day 2 and Sebayur on day 3. 4D3N: Kelor, Menjerite Point (Rinca on Voyage 2) and Kalong; then Padar, Pink Beach, Taka Makassar and Gili Lawa Darat; then Manta Point, Siaba Besar and Mawan; then Sebayur.
Who decides the order of the stops?
The captain sets the order of the stops on the day, because weather and current decide. Tide and current decide whether Manta Point or Taka Makassar comes first.
Will we see Komodo dragons and mantas?
Dragons: a ranger leads every Komodo Island walk, on the 1D, 2D1N and 3D2N. Komodo dragons are wild; the park cannot guarantee a sighting. Mantas: Manta Point is on the 3D2N (day 2) and the 4D3N (day 3), and sightings depend on the current.
How demanding is the Padar climb?
Moderate. The path to the main viewpoint takes about 25 to 45 minutes and is loose and steep in places, so wear sturdy shoes. The climb is optional, and anyone who stays aboard has the yacht to themselves. For sunrise, climbers leave about 65 minutes before it.
Where is dinner on the first day?
On board, after the Kalong sunset stop of day 1. The captain chooses the anchorage for the evening by the weather that day.
How rough is the sea between November and March?
November is calm. December is moderate, January and February are the roughest months of the year, and March settles to moderate. Mantas are at their best from December to February, and visibility is lower in January and February. That is the pattern by month, not a forecast, and the captain adjusts the route on the day.
Open dates and shared sailings
Can I buy one suite on a shared sailing?
Yes, on an open trip. A suite is booked per person, twin share, with a minimum of 2 per suite, for 3D2N: from IDR 6,500,000 (≈ USD 399) on Voyage 1 (Bern) to IDR 17,500,000 (≈ USD 1,074) on Voyage 2 (Borobudur). Guide and documentation are included. Other guests are aboard, so a hosted event needs the whole yacht.
When is the next shared departure?
Friday, 11 December 2026, on Voyage 1, which sails on Monday and Friday. The calendar lists 64 dates in all, 56 on Voyage 1 and 8 on Voyage 2. Dates taken by a private charter are not listed. On an open trip the guide and documentation are included.
Does Voyage 2 sail on open trips in 2026?
No. Voyage 2 lists no open-trip date before Friday, 7 May 2027, and then sails on Fridays. Its calendar lists 8 dates in all, every one of them in 2027. Its private dates before January 2027 are confirmed on request.
Is a private charter possible on any date?
Yes, on any date left free on either yacht's calendar; ask, and the date is held once the deposit is paid. A date on the open-trip calendar is a sailing with other guests, and Voyage 2's private dates before January 2027 are on request.
What happens if another party books my date first?
Nothing is held until you accept the written quote and pay the deposit of 50 percent. If another party takes the date first, we send the nearest free dates on both yachts, and the 2026 rate does not change with the month.
Are rates for 2027 published?
2026 rates run to 31 December 2026; rates for 2027 are sent in writing before you pay a deposit.
Paying and changing a booking
How do I book, step by step?
Message us the guest count and the dates; we send a written quote for the yacht and the route; you pay the deposit of 50 percent, and the balance 30 days before sailing. Along the way you send the brief: names, ages, diets, arrival flight and suite assignment.
How much is the deposit and when is the balance due?
The deposit is 50 percent of the quoted amount, and the balance falls due 30 days before sailing. Payment methods and any fee are confirmed in the written quote; PayPal carries 7.2 percent.
What if I cancel 60 or 30 days before sailing?
Cancel 60 days or more before sailing and 50 percent is returned; from 30 to 59 days, 25 percent. Inside 30 days nothing is returned. The alternative is to move the date, which costs nothing 30 days or more ahead.
What if the yacht cannot sail?
If the yacht cannot sail, we arrange a yacht of the same class on the same date at no extra cost, or a full refund. A route changed by weather is the captain's decision and not a failure to sail.
Can the booking be moved to another date?
Yes, if the yacht's calendar allows. A move costs nothing 30 days or more before sailing and IDR 500,000 from 14 to 29 days; inside 14 days it counts as a cancellation. Ask in writing with a new date and a second choice, and we reply with what is free.
Which company signs the booking?
PT Komodo Explorer Indonesia (NIB 1805260128363), the booking partner. It books, takes payment and arranges pickup; the Lamain crew works for the owner, who is a separate party.
Permits, park fees and paperwork
What are the Komodo National Park fees for a party?
Per person, for each day inside the park: IDR 250,000 for foreign guests, IDR 50,000 for Indonesian guests on weekdays and IDR 75,000 at weekends. One KEXI park package per guest bundles the entrance ticket (IDR 250,000 per foreign visitor per day under PP 36/2024) with the ranger fee and local levies; the package is paid on top of the boat price unless the quote marks it as included. None of it is in the fare.
Do I need to buy park tickets in advance?
Tickets are paid on top of the fare, and each name must match the passport, which is why the brief asks for full names. The park fees page sets out how the sum is collected for your dates.
Is a guide required and who pays for one?
Ranger fees and local levies sit in the park package, not on a bill of their own. A licensed guide is quoted on request on a private charter and included on an open trip.
Is photo and video documentation included?
Not on a private charter, where it is quoted on request. On an open trip it is included; on Voyage 2 that means camera photos, drone shots and GoPro. A drone needs a park permit.
Do guests need a visa for Indonesia?
Many nationalities enter on a visa on arrival or on an e-VoA applied for online; others need a visa in advance. The passport must be valid for at least six months after arrival. The fee and the list of countries change, so check the official immigration site for your nationality before you fly.
Which insurance should a party arrange?
Travel and medical insurance is not in the fare. We recommend cover that includes medical evacuation, taken out by each guest in their own name before travelling. A passport or ID copy is needed for the sailing permit, and the brief collects it.
Reaching Labuan Bajo
How do we reach Labuan Bajo?
By air to Komodo International Airport (LBJ), mostly through Bali (DPS), Jakarta (CGK) or Surabaya (SUB). From the terminal to the harbour area is a drive of about 10 minutes. Arrive the day before sailing, so that a delayed flight costs a night in town rather than the first stop.
Is airport pickup included?
Yes, from the airport, a hotel or the harbour, at no charge. A Toyota HiAce seats up to 12; a larger vehicle is quoted as its own line.
What vehicle takes a party of twelve?
A Toyota HiAce, which seats up to 12. A party of 13 to 16 needs a larger vehicle, quoted as its own line with the pickup time.
How many nights should we stay ashore before boarding?
One night, as a rule: arrive in Labuan Bajo the day before sailing, so a cancelled or delayed flight does not cost you the first stop. The hotel is not in the fare and is paid by you.
Can you suggest hotels in Labuan Bajo?
Yes. Our partner hotels in Labuan Bajo are on the hotels page; they sell rooms to us directly, so you pay the hotel's own price. Give us the arrival flight in the brief, and we match the pickup to it.
What time do we board and leave?
The pickup time and the meeting point come with your booking. The yacht is back in Labuan Bajo on day 2 of the 2D1N, day 3 of the 3D2N and day 4 of the 4D3N, at a time given in the quote.
Special occasions and privacy
Can a family of three generations share one yacht?
Yes, up to 16 guests on either yacht. On Voyage 1, Bern takes up to 4 and Osaka and Athena 2 to 3 each; on Voyage 2 every suite takes 2, with no extra beds. Climbs such as Padar are optional, and anyone who stays aboard has the yacht to themselves.
Can the yacht host a board meeting?
Yes, as a private session for up to 16 on a yacht chartered whole, round a dining table or on deck. Local Wi-Fi is on board; bring your own materials and screen.
Can we hold a private celebration on board?
Yes. On a private charter nobody else is aboard, and the limit is 16 guests. Decoration and a special dinner are quoted separately, nothing is added without a written quote, and the brief should name the date and the number of guests.
Who gets to see the names of my guests?
Our booking office and the crew. Because the sailing permit needs an ID or passport copy, the port authority sees the manifest too. Names on the park ticket must match the passport. We publish no guest names and make no promise about social media.
Can decoration or a special dinner be arranged?
Yes. Decoration, an island dinner, a seafood dinner and a dinner for a special request are quoted separately, and nothing is added to the fare without a written quote.
Can a photographer or a drone come along?
Yes, on request and quoted separately; a drone needs a park permit, issued by the park. On an open trip photo and video documentation is included.
